What is DC DC & PDU?

DC/DC and PDU are two important components in the electrical system of new energy vehicles (EV), each with different functions and roles:
1. DC/DC (direct current/direct current converter)
DC/DC converter is a power electronic device used to convert one DC voltage value into another DC voltage value.
In new energy vehicles, DC/DC converters are mainly used to convert the DC power of high-voltage power battery systems into DC power suitable for use by low-voltage electrical equipment inside the vehicle.
It is very important for connecting high-voltage power battery systems and vehicle low-voltage electrical systems, achieving energy conversion and matching between different voltage levels.
The types of DC/DC converters include Buck Converter, Boost Converter, Buck Boost Converter, etc., which are classified according to their working principles and functional characteristics.
2. PDU (Power Distribution Unit)
PDU is a key component in the high-voltage system of new energy vehicles, responsible for managing and distributing power from the power battery.
It controls the flow of electrical energy, ensuring safe and efficient distribution to various high-voltage electrical equipment in vehicles, such as electric motors, air conditioning compressors, DC/DC converters, etc.
PDU generally includes components such as circuit breakers, contactors, fuses, relays, etc., used for overload protection, short circuit protection, and power distribution.The design of PDU needs to consider factors such as electrical performance, thermal management, mechanical structure, and safety.
In new energy vehicles, DC/DC converters and PDUs work together to ensure that the vehicle's electrical system can operate efficiently and safely. DC/DC converters are responsible for voltage conversion, while PDUs are responsible for the distribution and management of electrical energy. The collaborative work of the two is of great significance for improving the energy efficiency, safety, and reliability of the entire vehicle.
